This is a fun Science assembly for year 1 in the autumn term. It has a catchy song (with bbc teach links). It covers, what is a animal, the different groups of vertebrate animals, the features to identify them, and a little prayer for if you work in Catholic school too.
There are so many opportunities for fun acting and miming in this script too depending on the ability of your class.
Hopefully it saves you some time for planning your own assemblies

I have always made it a point in my teaching to include famous figures from BAME/BIPOC backgrounds in all of my teaching practise. Here is a collection of 16 profiles of famous scientists who have had a profound impact on our world. I chose one of these to be displayed on my science display board every half term.
I use these profiles to help the children understand their scientific contributions and its impact to our society. I also use these profiles to interest and engage the children in our science or english lessons e.g. writing a fact file about these individuals.
